GO TEAM!!!
I'm back online with fabulous news. I ran my first half marathon. Yep, that's 13.1 miles folks and though it doesn't seem hardly anything in comparison to the 26.2 miles that constitutes a marathon, (Paul Tergat is 36 and he ran the NY marathon in 2 hours 9 minutes...a 4.93 mile, what's more impressive - that's not his best time) mile 12 and 13 nearly did take it all out of me. Everyone I passed would give a thumbs up and say something like "just 200 more yards."
Several thousand yards later I could see the finish line in front of me. Mom, Dad, Sarah, Scott and Nathan were there waiting for me. I cried. I didn't think that I would. I felt everything culminating in that moment; being in Santa Barbara, a place that Mike and I both called home for a brief spurt, running with thousands of others raising money for cancer, Lisa's spirit chief among my reasons for taking each painful step forward.
It took me 2 hours and 20 minutes more time than it took my Kenyan friend Tergat to run the entire NY marathon. How's that for some fun facts. However since I am a glutton for punishment I have decided to join Team and Training again and run the San Diego Rock n' Roll marathon in June. Yes, a marathon and it will probably take me more than 5 hours. The thought frightens me.
