Long Overdue
Many changes have come about in the last month. Namely, there is a new addition to this world. Nathan, I welcome you to this crazy life. Sarah and Scott, congratulations on becoming parents. Wow, this is surreal. I never thought that i would reach the age when my friends were getting married and having children. Don't get any ideas into your head mom because my time is far from due. Plus, i need to meet someone first, then travel the world, find a career path, maybe buy a car or something more expensive then a computer, read a million books on parenting, run a marathon, sing in a broadway music, then maybe i might be ready to try and have a kid, maybe.
the heat is on folks, i only have five months left here in romania and i am starting to sweat. I applied to a program called AVODAH where i would be working in NY or DC on poverty issues. I am not sure if that is what i want to do, but i thought it would be neat to live for a year in NYC or DC. my friend Jackie and cia want me to travel with them to Southeast Asia. That is tempting i must admit but that means that I would come home broke in the middle of the year and have to live at home until i get back on my feet. I love you mom and dad but I am not sure that you want me to live with you. I really want to spend a month in India or South America. i feel compelled to travel now because i have the time and the money but I also miss home and being around people I love and people that love me. Dilemnas, dilemnas. definitely though i am going to turkey before i come home in June.
On other fronts I have been taking guitar lessons for a month and have nicely developed calluses on my fingertips. I like running them over my lips. they make me proud. My guitar instructor doesn't speak a lick of english so lessons have been a hysterical exchange of violent headnodding ( on my part) and exaggerated pantomine (on his). He is a jovial older man with a bushy silver mustache and a patient manner. He insists that I learn with my ear. "You must develop you inner ear!" he yells at me beacuse volume apparently will help me understand better. "You must go back to America and show them that we know how to teach guitar in ROmania" he is very concerned about this point. I just giggle, an adequate reponse I have found to every situation. So far i have learned Jingle Bells, O Susana (in ROmanian which he insisted that i title Alabama), Let it be, Blowing in the wind ( the last two songs I have murdered rather than mastered). It is fun and it fills up my time when i have no book to read or my one tv channel is playing a horrible Romanian talkshow/ naked women dancing revue. That and I have been doing quite a bit of yoga.
On the school front, i have started reading To Kill a Mocking Bird with my tenth and ninth graders. I hope that they like it. It will take us till the end of the semester to read. I started the drama club again and we are starting to rehearse two different plays that we made up. I also am working on a slideshow for my group's Close of Service Conference next month. Little projects keep me busy...anyway sorry for my poor blogging these past few months. I will try and be better up until the end. I love you all!
