Snow Days
I know, I know how I have ceaselessly complained about the snow, the cold and the dreadful season of winter but today i experienced a pretty magical snow day. I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. It dumped on us all last night and the entire day today. A two foot blanket covers the city. This has been the first real snow that we've experienced all winter and the kids could not focus if their grades depended on it. "Nina, can we go outside?" "Nina look at all the snow." "Nina, Nina, Nina, please, please, please!" So, my half of the ninth form challenged the other half of the ninth form to a snowball fight. Fight is not quite an accurate description, it felt more like war. By the end of the hour I think that I had more snow under my clothes then on top of them. It was fun, I must admit. The boys are viscious. The worst torture is what they call "white washing" which pretty much implies sitting on top of you and rubbing snow in your face until you can't breath. The worst thing was the taunting. They all laughed at me and my "california" snowballs. Truthfully I was an awful snow soldier, I can't aim, can barely make a snowball before I am attacked and have a tendency to just hide my face in my hands like a sitting duck.
I also had a fairly sucessfull tenth grade class today. We had a mock trial about the use of pesticides on crops. It was funny. They created a whole story involving a chicken farmer, a pesticide company and an illegal drug marked DDD instead of DDT. I got to be the bailer (is that how you spell it?) and swear witnesses in. We laughed a lot. Teaching can be good, but boy does it stink when it's not. Those are some deep thoughts. =)
That's all for now.
