Countdown two months until Janice leaves. She is my sitemate and my neighbor. That sounds so lame. A sitemate, a neighbor, temporary roommate, the person who utilizes my washing machine, a fellow collage maker, my personal chef and diet coach, a resume checker... How do you explain a sitemate? She has become the older sister that I never had. We have the same birthday and we both talk loudly. Isn't that fate? I will be sad to see her go. According to this book, "The Art of Crossing Cultures" janice has fufilled my need for an expat community, where i can digress back into the understandable America slop from whence i came. Sometimes you need someone to make salsa with. It's strange this peace corps existence. Strange to know that for a very short period i spent a great deal of time with some very different people ( americans and romanians included) and then I will go ( where is the 1,000 dollar question) and never possibly see these people again. At least not in the same capacity. But that's life eh? We graduate high school and leave, college flickers past, now this, life, when does it all become permanent? Do I want it to become permanent? I taught my ninth graders the term 'rat race' this week. I announced "I inevitably have to join the rat race.' They were so confused. "What, Nina? America?" YES, AMERICA, LIFE...HEALTH INSURANCE. I think that they think i am a little strange. Stop your snickering!!!! When we made our New Year's Predictions for 2005, i asked that they predict my happy employment. I predict a confusing six months. maybe I should just forget everything and move to spain. Teach English, learn Spanish. What's another year abroad, in Western Europe?
Happy new year!! (LA MULTI ANI SI MULTI SANITATE!)
ps. Lisa get better, k!!!!
