The conference was a success! The moment of success came the last night, after a tired day of teaching all forty teachers attended a festive dinner. Festive dinner in ROmanian actually translates to a full on, dancing on the tables, doing the hora, wild shin-dig. By the end of the night most of the teachers were stripping to Joe Cocker "You can leave your hat on" ( the Romanian strip song) and laughing hysterically. Cia ( the other volunteer) and I worked with the kids all week playing improv games and creating scenes. I think Cia and I had as much fun or more than the kids. The teachers worked with them on the final day prior to the party and everyone left yesterday tired but content. I have never met so many young and enthusiastic teachers. It was good to feel so much energy in the air. Thanks to all who contributed, i was really touched to see your names on the list. It really meant a lot to many many teachers and students. You will get my personal thanks soon in the mail.
Tomorrow I leave for a short adventure to Belgrade and Croatia. I am missing the first week of school. Nothing really happens that week anyway. It is off season already so hopefully everything will be cheaper. THe leaves have started to change color and instead of thinking ah glorious autumn, my mind trembles at the idea of winter in the background...hovering, waiting to attack and sink her venomous fangs into the poor landscape. I can see her sinister smirk. It has started to rain. September 1st it turned chilly as if the weather were controlled by remote and summer was scheduled to die as soon as august burned to an end. Hard to believe that i was wearing a bathing suit not two weeks ago. I was tan for a fleeting moment. Now I can just close my eyes and conjure up the memory...the sun, the beach, the burn, the tan...cancer in the waiting. oh how i love summer...a haiku to summer
