I LOVE CAMP
Can you be a professional camp counselor? Can you? I had a great time this past week at GLOW Zalau. For the first time this whole year I felt like a volunteer. i had the flipchart and while I presented my session the girls were all super attentive. We presented topics that they never hear about. We talked about sex and STDs, nutrition and body image. For the sex talk all the counselors dressed up in condoms and we did this funny catwalk with the condoms all over our bodies. We wanted to make them comfortable with the topic. They thought it was hilarious. I had condoms hanging on my ears. The best part about the whole week was watching the girls become friends. The started out on Monday so shy and self conscious around us and the other girls. No one spoke out in sessions. By the end of the week they were screaming out answers and every girl was crying at the closing circle, vowing to keep in touch and plan a reunion next year. I felt like a proud soccer mom. Here were my girls and they had won the game. Can the feeling get any better?
Next week is my second camp this summer. This is the Leadership Camp that many of you contributed to. I am nervous about everything, being the hyper-anal programming manager, but I am sure that I will be fun. Let's see if I am alive after this next week!
