The Roaches Go Marching One By One
Now that spring is somewhat on her way my friends the cockroach family have retruned from their winter vacation. I had forgotten them, these long winter months, but they hadn't forgotten me. I nearly screamed the other night when I came stumbling from the bathroom without my glasses into my bedroom. I went to open the light and brushed my hand up against the wall looking for the switch. Suddenly the switch moved and upon closer inspection a two inch roach smiled at me while dangling from the light switch. Immediatly my friend Ana's voice rang in my ear, "For every one roach you see there are a hundred that you don't!" I cringed. I have now taken to tiptoeing across my apartment and watching my step. I couldn't go to sleep last night for fear of the creepy crawlers swarming the walls and the ceiling above my head. My imagination as you can see has gotten the better of me. Monday I took some decisive action and bought some Raid spray. I covered every inch of the house in the stuff until and got pretty high while doing it. It didn't work, they came a crawlin' out of god knows where Tuesday night, tapdancing accross my freshly sprayed floors and teasing me with every scurry. Today my friend Mirela gave me a super potent powder from Syria..."Guaranteed!" she claims. We shall see. My new mantra is DEATH TO THE COCKROACH!!!!
On another note I am putting out a general plea to all readers..summer projects have begun and we need sponsors. I am planning three separate seminar/camps for the summer. Camp #1 is an outdoor adventure/ leadership camp for both boys and girls. We are planning this for early summer ( June). Camp#2 is called CAMP LEAD which will be a boys Leadership camp. This is scheduled for late August. Last but not least I am planning a Drama and Creative Writing training Conference for Romanian Teachers. This is scheduled for early September. For all these projects we are asking for some financial support from home. We want to make subside the camps for the children and teachers who can't afford on their own what a week of camp would cost. We are asking for donations, anything that you can spare, even a dollar. All of the donations will be tax deductable and you can donate online through the Peace Corps Website ( we have set up a grant site known as the Peace Corps Partnership Program which lets friends and family donate to PCV projects). I will let you know more details when I know the exact website address. I really appreciate anything that you can contribute! Okay folks that is all for now. I must go wage my war against the prehistoric pest! lots of love and peace in the world (someday). nina
