"The Cherries are foarte bun"

So, I have been eating cherries here with a passion. I mean 2 to 3 kilos daily. Mad amounts of cherries. Well, the other day my group members and I were hanging out in the park of our small little town Plopeni. We had just bought a bunch of cherries at the market place. So, were sitting and talking and eating cherries of course and small group of kids starts to surround us. Naturally, we offered them some cherries and try to practice our Romanian. But, I notice that all the kids are opening up each cherry to look inside and every once in a while throwing them out on the ground. I thought to myself, "That's strange." So I open a cherry to have a look for myself and...I almost fainted. Crawling in and around the guts of the cherry are all of these little yellow magotty worms. I quickly threw that cherry on the ground and opened another. The same. Three out of three cherries had worms. I had eaten 3 kilos of worms that day. God knows how many kilos of worms are swimming in my stomach now. I guess this is all part of the peace corps experience. Anyways I had a good laugh at it and needless to say I have staying away from the cherries.
This weekend i am going to the mountains to escape the heat of Plopeni. It has gotten to be 40 degrees in the mornings. I am sweating from the time I get up in the morning to the time that I go to bed. Hopefully the mountains will be nice. There are some PCV trainees stationed there and they are going to show me around. I hope that we get to go hiking.
We also started planning our community project in Plopeni. We are trying to organize a soccer tournament for the kids and a community picnic with games. The only problem has been getting sponsorship. In romania there is no concept of sponsorship in place. People were made to volunteer during communist times, so volunteering on their own verition is something foreign. We will see how it goes. we are trying to get coke and mcdonalds to contribute but it has been hard. Well that's it for now. to be continued...
