"Rumors"
So apparantly, this on the hush hush but, Ethan Hawke's mom is a peace corps volunteer in Romania. I thought that was pretty exciting. lIfe has been fairly stable on the Plopeni homefront. No major qualms.
We are trying to plan a football ( or soccer ) tournament for our community which will culminate in a community picnic. The hardest part about organizing this event is finding sponsors. In romania the concept of sponsorship is a very foreign thing. Why should anybody give anything away for free if they don't have to. Thanks to the wounds of enforced volunteering during communism, it has been a struggle. Nobody has been willing to volunteer anything. But today we made some headway with Coca-cola. They just agreed to provide drinks for our players and banners to hang up at the picnic. So hopefully this will get the ball rolling and we can use coke to bribe McDonald's into giving us some prizes for the kids. Oh, the most important thing that i forgot to mention is why we are holding the tournament and picnic...We are raising money for Plopeni's hospital/ orphanage which on the verge of shut down.
I went hiking this past weekend in Busteni with a bunch of other volunteers, all in all I would say there was about ten of us. We had the best time. We went to the disco Saturday night and Sunday we took a cable car up a cliff and hiked up to a cross. The cable car was seriously sketchy All I could picture was newspaper headlines...GROUP OF PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS FALL TO THEIR DEATHS IN ROMANIA. But i am alive and in one piece and the view I wouldn't trade for anything. We were literally suspended thousands of feet above this canyon for 15 minutes. Amazing. Dad here is where you could insert the pictures I sent. This weekend I am off to Sibiu a town in the mountains where there is suppoosedly a bridge that will fall down if you lie while on it.
